The Florida Blues
A collection of photographic and illustrated designs featuring the butterflies in the family Lycaenidae that are native to Florida. Lycaenidae is a family of butterflies often reffered to as ‘the Blues’ due to their metallic azure wings.

Little Bugs, Big Personalities
The family of insects dubbed ‘Lycaenidae’ – otherwise known as ‘The Blues’ – are mostly small butteflies with shining iridescent blue scales on the tops of their wings.
Florida has a total of four species in the family, three of which being of similar stature (the other being the slightly small ‘Pygmy Blue’.) This design features the three larger Blues: (from left to right) the Ceraunus Blue, Miami Blue and Cassius Blue.
The Process
The Florida Blues Collection utilizes both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to create fully-realized designs of native butterflies. Each illustration is hand-detailed to be scientifically accurate and properly representative of the species featured.
